Welcome to the East African Alcohol Policy Alliance

The East African Alcohol Policy Alliance (EAAPA) is an advocacy initiative that brings together civil society from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi to work for enactment and implementation of laws against harmful use of alcohol.

East African Alcohol Policy Alliance - EAAPA was formed as a result of a resolution from an IOGT-NTO Movement sponsored Alcohol Conference in East Africa. Held on 13-14 January 2009 and attended by various stake holders to find an appropriate policy response to alcohol related problems in the East African region, a recommendation was made to institute an alliance to bring together the efforts for alcohol policy advocacy and implementation in East African countries.

Participants (including legislators, Health practitioner and activists) at the conference recommended formation of a league of networks in order to build a comprehensive system of legal regulatory, educational and treatment measures to deal with alcohol related problems.
